Dr. Anne Steele served as President of Muskingum University, New Concord Ohio for sixteen years. During her tenure as president, Anne transformed the financial model for the institution becoming a debt-free University during a period of extraordinarily challenging economic times for higher education in general and small private institutions.

Anne’s innovative approach to new business models included balancing cost containment with the expansion of innovative program offerings. Academic program expansion included new bachelor’s and two new master’s degree programs, 15 new majors, the Muskingum Adult Program for evening degree completion, and extensive continuing education and professional development programs to meet Ohio’s workforce needs – Establishing nine endowed chairs – the first in the institution’s history – to support excellent teaching in perpetuity. – Enhancing an array of student experiential learning and co-curricular opportunities, ranging from student-faculty collaborative research to new intercollegiate and intramural sports. – Constructing six new buildings renewing critical campus infrastructure components all through philanthropic contributions.
